Shells
into Bells:
Many people around the nation are using all or part of their stimulus
incentive checks the government is mailing out in May to immediate
advantage for people in poverty. GRCC is encouraging you to give half
or
more of your check either to a project that empowers people in poverty
locally or perhaps, anonymously or not, to someone who is currently
struggling with meeting his or her basic needs.
Anyone making such a commitment can let GRCC
know and we will send you a bell. It once was a shell used in war, but
has been turned into a sign of justice and peace. Fill out the Shells into Bells Form
and let GRCC know what
charity will receive your donation and where to send your bell.
Child Care Dollar$ for Working Families
This is a pilot project that will expand
access to childcare subsidies for working families with children
between the ages of six weeks and 12 years, who reside in Monroe
County. To be eligible to receive Childcare Dollars, parents must work
at least 20 hours per week, with incomes between 151% and 275% of the
federal poverty level; there is no restriction on family size. The
subsidies will cover a portion of childcare expenses, leaving the
parent to pay a weekly co-payment. See the
Child
Care Worksheet for more
information.
