Current and Upcoming Events
March
2010
The Walk
for a Nuclear-Free Future initiated by the Nipponzan Myohoji
Buddist Order will be coming through Rochester Monday and Tuesday March
22 and 23. Many of you may know Jun-san Yasuda, who has been
working for peace in upstate New York for decades. ( I first
met her when she was fasting for support of the original Griffis
Plowshares group during their trial back around 1982). We
expect about 25 to 30 marchers. The walk began on March 6th
in Steamburg, New York and will conclude on May 2 at the United Nations
in New York City.
The
walkers will be arriving from Brockport Monday in the late
afternoon and will be staying at St. Joseph's House of
Hospitality. There will be an ecumenical service at the House
at 5pm on Tuesday with discussion following. There will also
be a service and discussion starting at noon at the Linehan Chapel at
Nazareth College on Tuesday. The walkers will depart on
Wednesday morning. More details will follow. Or for
more information, contact Harry Murray at hmurray9@naz.edu or

Prayer
in Place of Violence
GRCC
continues to be in prayer
with the greater community of Rochester and for all those affected by
violence. We support the efforts started by Deacon Bill Coffey, nearly
ten years ago when he and others in the area began to address the
homicides that were taking place on our streets by going to the sites
of shootings to pray and bless the family and neighborhood. More info
A prayer
email chain was created.
People were encouraged after each
homicide to gather at the site to hold hands and send forth prayers of
healing and comfort. Those that cannot attend, pray from their home,
their office, their car... wherever it is best for them. To be a part
of this ongoing community of prayer and healing, please contact Bill
Coffey directly at: wcoffey2@rochester.rr.com
or email GRCC at grcc1@frontiernet.net.

Witness
against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Come and leave as it
fits your schedule. The goal is to bring an awareness of the war into
our daily lives, remind those driving by that the wars are still going
on, call for our troops to come home, and advocate for another approach
to healing in Iraq and Afghanistan.
